Free Ice Skating at Robson Square Ice Rink in Downtown Vancouver from December 1 2017 – February 2018

Vancouver’s one and only outdoor skating rink is officially open for the season.  The popular ice skating event is back at Robson Square in Downtown Vancouver.

The rink officially opened on December 1 and will stay open until the end of February 2018.  The rink is open 7 days a week including Christmas and New Year’s with varying hours.  You can enjoy the rink Sunday to Thursday from 9 am-9 pm and on Friday’s and Saturday’s from 9 am-11 pm.  Holiday hours will differ from normal operating hours so be sure to visit the Robson Square website for complete hour details.

Admission to skate at the outdoor rink this season is completely free, but if you need skates, you can rent a pair at cost, just be sure to bring cash.  If you haven’t been before, this free event is truly magical on a cold winters night!

Free Firework Shows on Halloween Night 2017 in Vancouver and Richmond

Free Movies at Cineplex Community Day on October 14, 2017

Movie lovers rejoice!  Free movies are coming to a theatre near you this week.  Cineplex will be hosting a Community Day event with free movies at select theatre locations across Canada.  This event will support the WE Charity, a movement that empowers you to create positive change, with 100% of the Proceeds from donations and select concession items going to the charity.

On the morning of Saturday, October 14th, you can catch a free movie at 9:30 am at select Cineplex locations.  Cineplex will host five different movies on Saturday morning, including Kung Fu Panda 3, Trolls, Ice Age: Collision Course, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.  With doors opening at 9 am, you’ll want to arrive early, because seating is limited and on a first come, first served basis.  

As an added bonus to this event, they will be selling a number of concession items for $2.50, including popcorn, select drinks and candy!  Cineplex will also offer 100 bonus SCENE points for concession purchases made of $10 or more before taxes on October 14th before 11 am.

If you’d like to donate to the WE Charity, you can do so by donating $2, which gives you one of five change bracelets in a variety of colours sporting different positive messages.

Free & Cheap Pumpkin Patches in Metro Vancouver & the Fraser Valley 2017

Autumn is officially here, which means pumpkin season is in full force.  Luckily for us, local farms open their doors to visitors for their annual pumpkin patches, every year, starting in late September/early October.  Hands down, I’d say this is the best way to get a pumpkin and has to be my favourite fall activity.  So, I did some research and found pumpkin patches around Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley that will cost less than $15 per person, with some that even offer free admission.  So get ready to bundle up, bring a camera and have some fun!  If you loved this post, you might also enjoy reading Penny Lavish’s posts on free and inexpensive corn mazes, haunted attractions, and Halloween attractions.

Free Outdoor Movies at Queen’s Park Stadium in New Westminster, this Summer, Every Friday Night in July and August 2017

Enjoy movies under the stars in New Westminster this summer.  Free outdoor movies are back for another year at Queen’s Park Stadium.

Every Friday night from July 7 – August 25, the City of New Westminster has partnered with G&F Financial Group, Derrick Thornhill and Park Georgia Realty to bring outdoor movies to the park this summer.  The movie series will run over eight weeks and will feature eight different movies.  The movies are all family-friendly and will feature some old classics, as well as some great kids movies.  The movies will begin at dusk, around 9 pm, and doors will open at 7 pm.

Seating at this event will be on the grass, so be sure to bring a chair or a blanket to sit on while you watch the show.  You may also want to bring snacks, but if you forget, the Hyack Football Team will be hosting a concession that will include light snacks and soda pop beverages.  So grab your friends, family or loved ones, and a blanket and get ready to relax and watch a movie in the great outdoors!

Live and local concerts are not only a popular event in Metro Vancouver, but are a popular event in North Vancouver.  Another free concert series is happening at Lynn Valley Village every Friday in July and August.

From Friday, July 7 until Friday, August 25, free concerts will be happening every Friday night from 6 pm-8 pm.  The concert series will run over eight weeks and will be held at Lynn Valley Village.  The Lynn Valley Concerts will feature eight different bands that range in a variety of music genres from Disco Funk to Latin Dance to Motown and much more!

It is recommended that you arrive early to get a great seat.  Make sure to bring a chair or a blanket to sit on.  If you come early, you can enjoy some of the local shops and restaurants nearby.  This is sure to be a great event that will get you moving!

Summer in North Vancouver is about to become a little more exciting.  The ever so popular Family Movie Nights in the Plaza are back for another year.

On Friday July 17 & 21 and Friday August 4 & 18, the City of North Vancouver and the North Vancouver City Library are hosting free outdoor movies.  The four night movie series will feature four family-friendly movies at the Civic Plaza.  Each night, the movies will begin at sunset (times listed below) and are weather permitting.  Seating is limited and guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on.  With a great line-up of movies, this event won’t disappoint!

Back for its eighth year, CBC Musical Nooners returns this summer.  The highly popular event features free concerts for six weeks.

The ultimate definition of “twinning”, this singer-songwriter duo and twins, Alanna and Brianne Finn-Morris hit our stage. Since the age of twelve they have be playing shows throughout B.C., the now 19 year old girls are up and coming stars.

Roy Forbes

A voice you never forget, Roy Forbes sings folk music with conviction and authority. This classic Canadian Folk artist is not one to be missed.

Friday, August 25
​Coco Jafro
Urban Artists of the year and 2016 CBC Searchlight finalists, this band packs a punch on the urban music scene. With the sounds of R&B, funk, soul, jazz, and afro-beats, this fusion and bold sound is the perfect way to end our Musical Nooners summer concert series.

Free Outdoor Concert Series in Deep Cove, North Vancouver, Every Friday from July 7 – August 4 2017

Outdoor Music

Live and local concerts are a popular event in Metro Vancouver every summer.  North Vancouver is brining you free outdoor live concerts for five weeks this summer.

From Friday, July 7 until Friday, August 4, free concerts will be held every Friday night at the scenic Panorama Park in Deep Cove, North Vancouver.  The concert series will run over five Fridays and will be held from 7 pm-9 pm.  The weekly performances will feature five different bands.  The genres of music vary from rock to reggae to classic Motown to blues.  There’s something for everybody’s music taste that will get you moving!

The event is family-friendly and it is recommended that you bring a chair or a blanket to sit on to enjoy the music from the comfort of your seat.  Be sure to arrive early as well, so you can get a good seat and it will also give you some time to enjoy some of the shops in the Cove.

Please note, concerts may be cancelled due to rain.
