Pokémon Go is the trendy app right now, surpassing many of the world’s biggest apps. I guarantee that if you’re not playing it, your friends and family are. I must confess, I’m officially a Poké trainer. I’m nowhere near addicted to the game, nor have I ever or will I ever watch the show, but this app peaks my interest enough to play while I go for walks. It’s a pretty cool concept to search for these Pokémon creatures as you walk through town, exploring where you live and learning new things about your town/city. So to no surprise to myself, the popularity of this game is drawing up parties and events around Metro Vancouver.
On Saturday, July 23 at Stanley Park in Vancouver, there will be a “Pokémon Go: Vancouver Meet Up”. The meet up will take place starting at 2 pm and will run until Sunday morning, July 24 at 4 am. Everyone is invited, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player or whether you’re part of team Mystic, Instinct, or Valor.
The event is expected to draw thousands of attendees, but given that it’s in Stanley Park, you’ll have lots of room to catch Pokémon and find more Poké balls and eggs. Just make sure to have data on your device, as there is no WIFI available in Stanley Park.
The Celebration of Lights will also be occurring the same night at English Bay, at 10 pm, so the area is expected to be busy. Organizers of the event are encouraging attendees to take public transit to keep the event eco-friendly, as well as to respect the park rules.
