Frugal Fun! *Weekly Edition*


Summer is here and it brings lots of fun outdoor activities!  Over the next few weeks, including this week, there will be lots of new events starting up for the summer.  This week includes 38 events, with 26 of them being free, and the rest are under $15!  You’ll find events such as, Kitsilano Showboat with outdoor performances, Vancouver’s Buskerfest, Surrey Doors Open where you can be a tourist in your own city, and so much more!  Be sure to check out the whole list though, as there are many other events you won’t want to miss out on!  Also, for more events this week, check out the post on farmers markets to see a complete list for Metro Vancouver.

1. TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival – Produced by the Coastal Jazz and Blues Society, there will be 1800 musicians performing in over 300 shows!  150 of those shows are free.  The festival will be at multiple locations in Vancouver for two weeks!  Click here for more info.

2. Kits Space Beach Yoga – Kits Space is offering free yoga for every age and ability.  No previous experience needed.  Bring a mat or towel.  Tips are welcome to help us provide materials for free drawing classes at the Vancouver Public Library.  For more info, click here.

3. Kitsilano Showboat – Entertainment from many different countries of the world, with a scenic backdrop of the North Shore Mountains, English Bay and West Coast sunsets.  For more info and performance schedule, click here.

4. Free Yoga at Dude Chilling Park – Vancouver yoga instructors are coming together to give you free Hatha Yoga classes every day in Vancouver at Dude Chilling Park!  Click here to find more info or visit my post.

5. FIFA Fan Zone – Offers activities for all ages, including live entertainment by talented Canadian bands, soccer demos, athlete autograph opportunities, contests and giveaways, interactive displays, as well as screenings of selected matches and appearances by the official FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 mascot Shuéme.  Click here for more details.  Click here for schedule of events.

18. Places That Matter Plaque Project – Celebrate the installation of five Places That Matter plaques that each highlight a story of W Hastings Street and its impact on the city.  There will be music with the Doreen Bender Trio, free coffee, tea and treats and a walking tour of West Hastings Street with civic historian John Atkin.  The first 50 people to come visit, will receive a goody bag full of treats!  Click here for more info.

20. Opening Reception at Surrey Arts Centre – Opening reception and awards presentation, this will be a celebration of artmaking and a collaboration between the Arts Council of Surrey, the Surrey Art Gallery, and local visual artists.  Refreshments served. Click here for more info.

23. International Summer Night Market – Named one of the top 4 night markets in the world by Travel & Leisure Magazine.  The market has lots of merchandise booths, food and beverage vendors, the Kids Zone, and exciting entertainment every night!  Free street parking, free shuttles from Bridgeport Station, and free Wi-Fi! Click here for more info.

24. Richmond Night Market – At the market you can sample delicious food from food trucks, play carnival games, enjoy nightly entertainment performances, and shop for merchandise from a variety of vendors!  Pick up a “Sweet Deals Coupon Book” at the entrance or at the info booth area for coupons offering over $250 in savings!  Click here for more info.

28. Gordon MacMillan Southam Observatory – Star gazing at it’s finest!  The observatory has a 1/2 metre Cassegrain telescope to see the night skies!  There is staff there to guide you and answer your questions.  For more info, click here.

33. Velopalooza presents Pink Floyd The Sea Wall – A group of individuals will ride the Sea Wall for 1 hour and 21 minutes during the entirety of the album “The Wall” by Pink Floyd.  The bike ride will end at Spanish Banks where there will be music and beverages.  Click here for more info.
