Frugal Fun! *Weekly Edition*

It’s the beginning of June and we’re that much closer to summer, which brings lots of great outdoor events to Metro Vancouver!  I’ve got 38 exciting events for the week, with over half of them free, and the rest are under $15!  This week brings events such as, free manicure and massage, free community events across Metro Vancouver, World Oceans Day events, and so much more!  Be sure to check out the whole list though, as there are many other events you won’t want to miss out on!  Also, for more events this week, check out the post on farmers markets to see a complete list for Metro Vancouver.

1. Rockaoke Live featuring The Naturals with host Dr. Goulet, Professional Voiceman – An evening of karaoke, but with a live band, starring you!  Over 400 songs to choose from!  Click here for more details.

11. Lafflines Comedy Club – A comedy club located in New Westminster.

16. Vancouver Shogi Club – Japanese chess in the city of glass.  You don’t need to have shogi experience to play; they will teach you.  Click here for more info.

18. World Nature Night, a part of World Oceans Weekend – Guest ornithologists and naturalists will explore the southern “end of the world” Argentina, and explore the landscapes and wildlife of this extreme locale. 19. Doors Open Richmond – It’s the 8th annual celebration of arts, culture and heritage, where visitors of all ages can explore Richmond’s heritage and arts at 44 partner sites across the city.  The kickoff is on Friday, where there will be a block party with live music, entertainment and free kids crafts.  They’ll also officially open the Japanese Fishermen’s Benevolent Society Building on the Steveston Museum site that night, where you can explore the exhibits inside. Click here for full details and brochure map.

20. International Summer Night Market – Named one of the top 4 night markets in the world by Travel & Leisure Magazine.  The market has lots of merchandise booths, food and beverage vendors, the Kids Zone, and exciting entertainment every night!  Free street parking, free shuttles from Bridgeport Station, and free Wi-Fi! Click here for more info.

21. Richmond Night Market – At the market you can sample delicious food from food trucks, play carnival games, enjoy nightly entertainment performances, and shop for merchandise from a variety of vendors!  Pick up a “Sweet Deals Coupon Book” at the entrance or at the info booth area for coupons offering over $250 in savings!  Click here for more info.

24. Gordon MacMillan Southam Observatory – Star gazing at it’s finest!  The observatory has a 1/2 metre Cassegrain telescope to see the night skies!  There is staff there to guide you and answer your questions.  For more info, click here.

Where: 1100 Chestnut St., Vancouver, BC.  Located next to the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.

Price: Only observatory visit by donation.

25. Story Time at Wesbrook Welcome Centre – Join in for stories, songs, and crafts.  All ages welcome and children must be accompanied by an adult.  Click here for more information.

26. Hats Off Day – A day where Burnaby Heights merchants “take their hats off” to their community and their customers, and the Heights community celebrates together.  There will be a family fun dash, parade, street festival, street performers, music, show & shine, and much more!  Must register for family fun dash at cost.  All proceeds benefit the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society.  Click here for more info.

29. Lazuli Bunting Walks – Go on a 2 hour guided birding walk and enjoy birds including Lazuli Buntings.  Bring binoculars.  Drop-in.  Click here for more info.

30. Discover Marine Creatures and Eelgrass Meadows in Boundary Bay – Learn about marine creatures and the importance of eelgrass habitat on our local beaches.  Then take a guided walk down the 1001 steps to the beach and go exploring.
