Vancouverites, it looks like we are in for another week of warmer weather!  Hopefully it’s here to stay for the Victoria Day long weekend!  Either way, I’ve got you covered for many exciting events and 13 of them are free!  The long weekend brings us another opening of a night market, the Cloverdale Rodeo, Whistler’s GO Fest, and more!  All of these are must see events!  But there are lots of other great events as well, so be sure to check the whole list as you won’t want to miss a thing!  For more details, below is a list of events for the week of Monday, May 11 to Sunday, May 17.  Check out the post on farmers markets to see a complete list of Metro Vancouver farmers markets happening during the week.  Share any events and activities I may have forgotten, below in the comments!  Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog by e-mail, RSS feed, or twitter!

1. A Night with Grizzlies – Learn about why grizzly bears matter, what we know about grizzly bears from the science, why what’s good for bears is what’s good for people, and meet some of the people who dedicate their lives to these iconic bears.  Must buy tickets ahead of time.  Click here for more event details.

2. Feedback Series: Close Readings – Julia Dault – An invited group of local cultural producers offer responses in the form of readings, images or video, providing diverse and layered conversations on Dault’s work.  Click here for full event details.

4. Cineplex Tuesdays – All Cineplex theatres on Tuesdays have discounted tickets including premium tickets for 40% off.  An extra 10% off for scene members.

5. Kings Head Comedy – Get your laugh on with some great comedians every Tuesday night!  Click here for more info.

6. English Corner: Practise Conversational English for Free – An informal way to improve Conversational English.  Participants learn English, share their ideas, and learn how to build a community.  Drop-ins welcome!  Click here for more information.

8. Unplugged: $10 Billion and Counting – War Stories From The Valley – An open mic meetup with Jeff Liu, Global Sector Head of Technology at EY, where you can hear about his experiences in the Valley.  With over $10 billion in completed financing work in technology investment banking, listen to Jeff as he shares his experiences working with Canadian companies in the Silicon Valley.  Click here for more info.

9. BlueBird North Vancouver – Where writers sing and tell.  Some of Canada’s best songwriters will share their song along with the stories that inspired them.  The performers are David Graff, Jack Marks, Ben Sures, Hannah Walker and Jamie Elliot (Twin Bandit), and host Shari Ulrich.  Click here for full details.

13. Lafflines Comedy Club – A comedy club located in New Westminster.

14. Lulu Series: Art in the City – A talk about Art in the City and its importance to establishing connections between citizens and their communities.  Click here for more information.

15. Discover Dance! Ache Brasil – They will demonstrate traditional folk dances as well as the spectacular martial art/dance of capoeira, whose amazing acrobatics take place in a whirring circle of movement, singing and percussion.  Click here for more info.

16. Van Improv Fight Club – This 19+ event will raise funds for Aprons for Gloves.  Challenging comedians with a Superfight Match between rounds and a Battle Royale featuring surprise fighters!  If you’re an improviser in the audience, put your name into the Question Block for Doom for your chance to step into the ring.  Click here for full details.

19. International Summer Night Market – Named one of the top 4 night markets in the world by Travel & Leisure Magazine.  The market has lots of merchandise booths, food and beverage vendors, the Kids Zone, and exciting entertainment every night!  Free street parking, free shuttles from Bridgeport Station, and free Wi-Fi! Click here for more info.

20. Cloverdale Rodeo and County Fair – Rodeo, live entertainment, West Coast Lumberjack show, World Freestyle Skateboarding Round Up, The West Fine Art Show, rides, food and beverage vendors, and much more fun!  Please note: Some events cost extra on top of gate admission!  Click here for full details about pricing and here for more event info.

21. GO Fest Whistler – Celebrate the convergence of summer and winter at Whistler’s Great Outdoors Festival with four days of events and activities.  Prices vary by event, some are free.  Events include, sports, art, music, family events, car show, pancake breakfast, and much more!  Click here for more info.

22. Richmond Night Market – At the market you can sample delicious food from food trucks, play carnival games, enjoy nightly entertainment performances, and shop for merchandise from a variety of vendors!  Pick up a “Sweet Deals Coupon Book” at the entrance or at the info booth area for coupons offering over $250 in savings!  Click here for more info.

24. Lonsdale Quay Farmers Market – Locally grown conventional and organic produce, baked goods, jam makers, honey gathers, salsa makers, crafts, and much more.  There is also live music, a used book exchange, a newspaper reading area, and more!  Click here for more info about the market.

25. Gordon MacMillan Southam Observatory – Star gazing at it’s finest!  The observatory has a 1/2 metre Cassegrain telescope to see the night skies!  There is staff there to guide you and answer your questions.  For more info, click here.

Where: 1100 Chestnut St., Vancouver, BC.  Located next to the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.

26. Story Time at Wesbrook Welcome Centre – Join in for stories, songs, and crafts.  All ages welcome and children must be accompanied by an adult.  Click here for more information.

27. Arts & Crafts Family Show – Shop for handmade items, taste great food, and explore activities for the whole family!  First 100 people will receive a swag bag each day.  Click here for more info.

29. The Cloverdale Market –  Includes a flea market with 200 tables and 100+ outdoor spots selling goods such as, electronics, household items, handmade crafts and artwork, jewellery, clothing and collectibles.  You can also find fresh produce, plants and flowers!  Click here for more info.

30. Baker’s Market 2015 – A market full of baked goods and much more!  Takes place indoors, with free admission, free samples, and free parking.  Click here for more details.
