Exciting new events are happening all week-long in Metro Vancouver and I’m here to share them with you!  All of the events are $15 or less and some are free!  That’s right, FREE!  Some of these include, Canstruction Vancouver, Stone Soup Festival, and KPU’s Science Rendezvous.  Be sure to check the whole list as you won’t want to miss a thing!  For more details, below is a list of events for the week of Monday, May 4 to Sunday, May 10.  If you want to see a list of Farmers Markets for the week, click here!  Share any events and activities I may have forgotten, below in the comments!  Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog by e-mail, RSS feed, or twitter!

1. Canstruction Vancouver – Architects, Engineers, Designers, and Students bring giant sculptures to life using canned food.  The theme for this year is “Fact or Fiction”.  100% of the cans raised are donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.  Click here for more info.

2. DOXA Documentary Film Festival – Western Canada’s largest documentary film festival.  Various documentaries being played throughout the week that start at $11, with some free screenings.  Must be 18+ and an annual member of The Documentary Media Society ($3), unless otherwise stated.  For full ticket details, click here.  For youth documentary film information, click here.  Click here for more event details.

3. Sonic Playground: Exhibit & Workshops – Celebrating BC Youth Week with sound installations, workshops, open rehearsals, and performances.  Vancouver’s most inventive sound artists and musicians mentor youth to create sound projects.  Click here (go to page 11) for more details and schedule of the event.

4. Vancouver Bird Week – A week-long series of events to celebrate Vancouver’s birds.  There will be bird-related workshops, walks, talks, exhibitions, and lectures across Vancouver.  Click here for more event schedule.

5. Free Public Salon – A special presentation: “Ending Stigma Begins With You”.  Using real experiences, they’ll talk about what stigma is in mental health, play a surprising celebrity matching game, and discuss some simple and powerful ways we can end mental health stigma.  Click here for more details.

6. Cineplex Tuesdays – All Cineplex theatres on Tuesdays have discounted tickets including premium tickets for 40% off.  An extra 10% off for scene members.

7. Teen Angst Comedy – Join host Sara Bynoe and her guests as they share stories from their teenage years and then sing a song related to their story.  After, its open mic for audience members to get in on angsty teenage memories.  Click here for more info.

8. Kings Head Comedy – Get your laugh on with some great comedians every Tuesday night!  Click here for more info.

9. English Corner: Practise Conversational English for Free – An informal way to improve Conversational English.  Participants learn English, share their ideas, and learn how to build a community.  Drop-ins welcome!  Click here for more information.

10. SFU Employment Dialogue Series: Youth – Learn more about best practices and opportunities for both employers and job seekers.  Click here for more info.

11. Sonic Playground: Performances – Soundscapes, Synths, and Speed Stunned Imaginations Shadow Play – Analog synthesis battles it out with digital interfaces in a program of live music by grade 11 and 12 students from Burnaby North Secondary Digital Sound Production and Recording Program.  Click here (go to page 12) for more details and to pre-register.

16. Lafflines Comedy Club – A comedy club located in New Westminster.

17. Wonders of Wood – Pecha Kucha Night Volume 10 – Free event presented by the City of Richmond Art Program in partnership with the City’s Park Division.  Featuring ten creative and specialized practitioners in architecture, instrument-making, art and design and environmental professionals who will share their creative process of envisioning wood in unique ways.  Click here to RSVP ahead of time, limited seating.

18. Rio Theatre – “Alien” and “Aliens” are playing on Friday, May 8.  All ages welcome in the balcony.  Click here for more info.

19.KPU Science Rendezvous Education Expo – Open to the public, KPU will be transformed into a science experience where you will get a chance to participate in hands-on experiments, walk through interactive science labs, watch a demonstration of the high-tech patient simulators in the nursing labs, and take a walk-through the brand new state of the art brewing lab!  Click here for more event information and to get free tickets.

20. Tour KPU’s New State-of-the-Art Brewing Lab – Do you love craft beer and want to learn how to make it?  Come view KPU’s new state-of-the-art brewing lab.  It’s the first time it’s open to the public.  Click here for full event details and event ticket.

21. Burnaby Farmers Market – Locally grown conventional and organic produce, prepared foods, and crafts!  There is also live music, a used book exchange, a children’s play tent, games table, and more!  Click here for more info about the market.

22. Lonsdale Quay Farmers Market – Locally grown conventional and organic produce, baked goods, jam makers, honey gathers, salsa makers, crafts, and much more.  There is also live music, a used book exchange, a newspaper reading area, and more!  Click here for more info about the market.

23. Gordon MacMillan Southam Observatory – Star gazing at it’s finest!  The observatory has a 1/2 metre Cassegrain telescope to see the night skies!  There is staff there to guide you and answer your questions.  For more info, click here.

Where: 1100 Chestnut St., Vancouver, BC.  Located next to the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.

24. Stone Soup Festival – Food market, artists, community groups, music, garden info, workshops, author talks, free soup, and more!  Click here for full event information and schedule.

25. Story Time at Wesbrook Welcome Centre – Join in for stories, songs, and crafts.  All ages welcome and children must be accompanied by an adult.  Click here for more information.

26. Bloom Spring Market – The market will have fine art, jewelry, glass, ceramics, baby gear, accessories, treats and flowers for mom.  There will be a beer and wine tasting.  Free street parking behind the hall.  Admission proceeds benefit the Langley Food Bank.  Click here for more info.
