Spring break is on for the kids!  Only two days left until St. Patty’s Day!  This week is sure to have many great $15 or less activities!  You can enjoy everything from Celticfest Vancouver, meeting Alex Burrows, to hiking up the stairs of Harbour Centre.  Even the weekly events have extra shows or specials going on!  Check it all out, below!  This “Frugal Fun!” list is for the week of Monday, March 16 to Sunday, March 22.  Share any events and activities I may have forgotten, below in the comments!  Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog by e-mail or RSS feed!

1. VanDusen Botanical Gardens – Up to two kids 12 & under are free when you buy a regular priced adult, senior, or youth ticket, for the month of March.  Explore 55 acres of this beautiful garden, featuring 7,000 different plants.  Click here for more info.

Price: Kids (0-12) – free for the month of March when you purchase an adult, youth, or senior ticket.  Youth (13-18) & Senior (65+) – $5.75 and Adult (19-64) – $7.75, until April 1.  See here for more details on admission prices.

2. CelticFest Vancouver – 12 action-packed days of entertainment with free and ticketed events around Vancouver.  Click here for a list of event schedules and ticket prices.

3. Weekly Family Programs at Vancouver Art Gallery – You can explore the galleries and try hands-on activities inspired by the exhibitions.  Children 12 & under when accompanied by an adult are free.  From March 9-14 the gallery will feature “The Poetics of Space”, and from March 15-20, they will feature “Cezanne and the Modern: Masterpieces of the European Art from the Pearlman Collection.”  Click here for more info.

4. Meet and Greet with Vancouver Canucks Player, Alex Burrows – Meet Vancouver Canuck’s NHL right-winger, Alex Burrows, on Monday, March 16.  Fans will have the opportunity for a photo and an autograph signed by Alex.

5. Spring Break at the Cannery – The Cannery will have lots of fishing-themed activities and drop-in workshops for families with kids of all ages for spring break!  Click here for more info.

Where: 12138 4th Avenue, Richmond, BC at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery.

Price:  All admission prices are including tax.  Adults – $7.80, Seniors (65+) – $6.55, Youth (6-16 yrs) – $3.90, Children (under 6 years) – free, Family (up to 7 people, max. 2 adults & 5 youth) – $19.60, Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society Members – free.

6. Cineplex Tuesdays – All Cineplex theatres on Tuesdays have discounted tickets including premium tickets for 40% off.  An extra 10% off for scene members.

8. Harbour Centre Urban Grind – Climb the stairs at Harbour Centre to the iconic Vancouver lookout, where you’ll see the best views of the city!  The climb is 553 feet!  $5 entry fee includes a $5 voucher redeemable at their food court, a beer when you get to the top, and a live DJ.  Click here, for more info.

9. Yuk Yuk’s Vancouver – Comedy Club with three shows weekly for less!

13. Kyle Bottom’s Comedy Bucket –  Katie Ellen Humphries will be filling in for host Kyle.  Audience members will receive a slip of paper, where they write anything, anonymously.  The comedians talk about what’s on your mind after they receive the bucket that’s full of the paper slips.  Click here for more info.

14. Vancouver Shogi Club – Japanese chess in the city of glass.  You don’t need to have shogi experience to play; they will teach you.  Click here for more info.

15. Artisans Fair at River Market Westminster Quay – There will be jewelers, knitters, and crafters bringing you their best work for this day!  The market will have farm-fresh produce, plants, gourmet foods, community info, crafts, live entertainment, and more.  Click here for more info.

17. Gordon MacMillan Southam Observatory – Star gazing at it’s finest!  The observatory has a 1/2 metre Cassegrain telescope to see the night skies!  There is staff there to guide you answer your questions.  For more info, click here.

Where: 1100 Chestnut St., Vancouver, BC.  Located next to the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.

18. Tiger Ping Pong Club’s Round-the-World Showdown and Ping Pong Party – Ping pong party with free play (included in admission price) all night, cash bar, and music provided by Can I Live DJs.  Teams of 3 people are welcome for the Round-the-World competition.  There will be prizes awarded.  Click here for more info.

21. Port Moody Farmers Market Workshop Series: Mason Bees – Learn hands-on about caring for mason bees as well as their importance on your backyard eco-system.  During the workshop, you will create a mason bee house for your backyard!  Click here for more info.
